Centre de Montagne – La Fourque
15 Person accommodation; Entry porch for wood and shoes. Large communal room with fireplace. Fully equipped kitchen separated by an American style bar. Dormitory accommodation. Communal bathroom.
Le Crusous
8 Person accommodation; Entry porch for wood and shoes. Living area with sofa, TV and wood burning stove, a fully equipped kitchen area and a staircase leading to the three bedrooms. Terrace, garden furniture and beautiful views over the rivers and the mountains.
Explore the Outdoors
Hiking
Salau is a perfect base to explore the Pyrenees with lots of different hikes. Lots of routes to explore in and around the mountains. Come and see the beautiful waterfalls, the Cirque d'Anglade or walk up to the French - Spanish border.
Skiing Snowboarding & Snowshoeing
Skiing and snowboarding is in the next valley a 20 minute drive away at Guzet Neige. A fantastic small ski domain in the Ariege for beginners and intermediates. 29 Pistes in 3 sectors; 1 luge; 2 snowshoe routes; a snowpark; restaurants; and ski rental.
Cycling
Many groups of cyclists use the gite as a base for both road biking and mountain biking. Col de la Core, Col de Latrappe, Col d'Agnes all well known for the Tour de France, are all nearby. For mountain biking there are many routes based from Seix. At Guzet Neige there is the "Mountainbike Park" (VTT descente).
Canoeing, Rafting and Caving
The river Salat offers some great opportunities for kayaking and rafting on moving water down to Seix. The "Haut Salat Kayak Club", Horizon Vertical et Objectif Spéléo offer outdoor pursuits includng caving.
Fishing
The rivers Salat and the Cougnets run immediately behind the gite and is very popular for trout fishing. Withe a valid permit you can fish all the rivers in the Couserans.
Photography
Photographers love the area for the flora and fauna and the amazing landscapes.
Painting
Salau is an ideal setting for painting and sketching with stunning scenery and Pyrenean views.
Food
Use the gite as a base to sample some of the fabulous restaurants in the area with typical Pyrenees recipes; French with a Spanish influence.
Le Mont Rouch
This holiday cottage (gîte) accommodates 5 people. It is located on a quiet street in the heart of the village of Salau (40 inhabitants) and has breathtaking views of Mont Rouch, the Port de Salau (French-Spanish border) and the Pic de Soubirou. On the front and on the side of the cottage, where the garden and terrace are located, is the confluence of the rivers Cougnets and Salat. The terrace adjoining garden is mainly directed towards the south and has outdoor cooking facilities. The cottage is simply furnished, but everything is there.
The beds have mattress covers, a blanket and a bolster. You will need to bring your own bed linnen, towels and tea towels.
Opposite the cottage there is ample space to park up to 3 cars.
The heating of the house is by electric radiators and there is free WiFi available inside and on the terrace.
The cottage is a perfect base for hiking. The Cirque d’Anglade, Port de Salau, les Cascades and the Sentier de Découvertre are all from the front door. Other local walks to Port d’Aula and Bords de Salat are easily accessible.
In the village there are no shops, only a small bar with terrace and a restaurant. Seix is the nearest town where groceries can be purchased which is a 15 minute drive down the valley.
Centre de Montagne – La Fourque
La Fourque is “quite simply” a dorm room for 15 people with a fully equipped communal kitchen. Ideal for hikers passing through or for groups. The Centre is functional and simple, but everything is there.
The beds have a mattress cover, a blanket and a pillow. You will need to take a sheet sleeping bag liner or sleeping bag.
The heating is via a wood burningstove. The wood is included in the price.
The dormitory accommodation is located in the heart of the mountain village of Salau, is an ideal base for summer and winter holidays.
Check-in from 4 p.m. and check-out before 10 a.m. Any deviation from these times can be discussed with the manager of the lodgings.
In the village there are no shops, only a small bar with a terrace. In the village of Seix (15 minutes by car) you find all the necessary shops such as, a service station, a medical center, a pharmacy, two garages, a bakery, two restaurants supermarkets and a sports shop etc.
Le Crusous
The Gite is a cosy 75 m2 house with 3 bedrooms with a large communal living/dining area and a well equipped kitchen. It accommodates 8 people and makes a fantastic base for active holidays in the French Pyrenees. Outside is a terrace with outdoor furniture. Located in the village of Salau on the banks of the Salat, it is about as close as you can get to the Spanish border.
WiFi is free and works everywhere in the house and on the terrace.
Parking is available opposite the building.

Heating is from a woodburning stove (wood allotted for your stay) plus an electric radiator.
